Jordan Weisman, the creator of BattleTech and MechWarrior, is back to work on the new BattleTech game. I am curious to see if some of the mechs that have made an appearance in the back of the new fiction books, that dont have new artwork yet, are destined for the Kickstarter treatment. As the studio did with Shadowrun: Hong Kong, it has self-funded a base game version of BattleTech, and is asking for more cash to fund further development.īattleTech video games began in 1988 with BattleTech: The Crescent Hawk's Inception, but it wasn't until the 1995 release of MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat that the series broke out. Harebrained's new BattleTech is the first game in the series on PC in over 20 years. At the time of publication, the BattleTech Kickstarter is on $795,303, from 11,392 backers. Harebrained Schemes, which has successfully crowd-funded a raft of Shadowrun games in recent years, took to Kickstarter again to ask for $250,000 for a new game in the long-running PC mech series. As the game stands, it will have a complete single-player campaign, as well as open-ended "mercenary" gameplay that will let players carry on indefinitely by accepting procedurally-generated contracts. The people behind the Shadowrun games launched a Kickstarter for a new BattleTech game - and it met its target in just 53 minutes. It's set in the "classic Battletech" era of 3025, at the end of the Third Succession War and prior to the Clan invasion, when the Great Houses were still scrambling and scavenging to simply maintain effective Mech fighting forces. Harebrained's Battletech is a turn-based tactical game, rooted in games like FASA's Mech Commander (Harebrained co-founder Jordan Weisman, by the way, was also co-founder of FASA) and, prior to that, the Crescent Hawk games. "First among them will be Cooperative Multiplayer, which will allow you and a friend to face-off against AI opponents." This deluge of new BattleTech product includes the first three Wave 2 ForcePacks, with more ForcePacks becoming available in the store through the end of the year and beyond. "After that, any additional funds will go toward funding a Post-Launch Live Team that will continue developing additional features and content," it wrote in a Kickstarter update. The DropShips have landed, and the first items from Wave 2 of the massively successful BattleTech: Clan Invasion Kickstarter are live in the Catalyst web store. At the same time, Harebrained does have plans to expand the game further after it's come out.
